WBI takes 1st place at ISSE Long Beach barber competition!

Here’s how WBI did at ISSE Long Beach…

On Monday, January 30, Western Barber Institute attended the International Salon and Spa Expo in Long Beach. It’s one of the largest hair shows and competition events in Southern California. Our barber students participated in several categories including the Super Student Anything Goes, Fast and Cleanest Fade and Freestyle Design.

We’re very proud of all our students that participated: Alan Perez, Benz Zamora,George Montes and Edward Bardavid.

The Participants

Alan Perez participated in the freestyle design category of the competition. This was his first time competing at an event as large as ISSE Long Beach. We’re super proud of him and he did an amazing job! Check out his work below.

One of our newest students, Benz Zamora, participated in two categories of the competition! He has only been cutting hair for about a month. It takes tremendous bravery to compete against more experienced barber students at one of the biggest hair shows in Southern California! We couldn’t be more proud. Benz is already showing great signs of being an outstanding student. Be on the look out for him!

The Winners

George Montes (3rd place winner) and Edward Bardavid (1st place winner) after receiving their trophies in the ‘Anything Goes‘ category of the competition.

We are beyond proud of Edward and George for placing in the competition. Both participants showed their very best work despite being nervous about the competition. The haircuts are clean and very creative and also perfectly matched the wardrobe of their models. Both of them created an overall amazing look and are very deserving of their awards! Great job guys!

Overall, the event was an amazing experience for everyone that attended. We encourage our students to put themselves out there and participate in the competitions regardless of their experience level. No matter what, it’s a learning experience and their skills will only grow with each time. We look forward to the next competition!
