Braids have been a very popular hairstyle all over the world for thousands of years. It is actually one of the oldest hairstyles known to man. This hairstyle originated in Africa and was used by tribe members. This hairstyle has gone on to show a status symbol and to now in 2016, be one of the leading hairstyles in fashion trends.

There are many different types of braids. There is the traditional kind where you weave 3 sections of hair together to create one structure. There are also many other types of braids such as cornrows, french braids, dutch braids, box braids, crochet braids, kumihimo (a Japanese style braid) and many, many more. Many celebrities such as Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, Blake Lively, Alicia Keyes and many more incorporate this look in not only their everyday lives but even on the red carpet! These other types of braids are a lot more intricate and take a lot more work and patience to perfect.

For example, when doing a dutch braid, you need to start by taking a small subsection of hair from around the hairline and start by tightly weaving 3 small sections of hair two to three times, and after you will incorporate more sections. When every subsection is switched from hand to hand you will grab more hair from that side to add to the braid. This will result in a full, very trendy look.

As we know braiding has always been a very popular hairstyle and with its versatility and unique look there is really no surprise that it has been around for so many years!
